Newsletter: April 2002
Welcome to the April edition of iiNet's newsletter. We hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy Easter break.
iiNet is excited to announce that our range of Broadband Home Internet services are now available to W.A. country customers at the same rates charged in the metropolitan area. In the last few months we have had very strong demand for our high-speed Broadband Home Internet services from our customers in the metropolitan area. We have been looking at ways to provide our full suite of Broadband services at the same level of service and at the same price, to our country customers. We have decided to 'bite the bullet' and absorb the additional regional access fee charged by Telstra to wholesale Internet Service Providers like iiNet, meaning our regional clients can now enjoy the same Broadband benefits as our metropolitan clients. Broadband can provide speeds up to 30 times faster than a normal dial-up 56k modem, which is expected to become obsolete in the next few years. Once a normal phone line is Broadband enabled utilising ADSL technology, the phone line has a constant connection to the Internet without the need to dial-up. If you are within the following regional exchanges, you are now able to apply for iiNet Broadband:
There are many additional regional exchanges scheduled for Broadband upgrade in the near future. To check whether your local exchange is Broadband enabled, simply visit: http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/canigetbroadband.htmlPlease note that all applications are subject to full service qualifications. If you have made a previous application, please drop us a quick email at corporate@iinet.net.au with your username, and we will re-visit your application.
iiNet is pleased to present you with the following exchanges that are now on-line for ADSL HOME AND BUSINESS applications:
Please note that all applications are subject to full service qualifications.
iiNet is proud to release a new component for the iiNet website: the iiCalendar. This new feature allows you to display a calendar of the next 30 days on your iiNet home page, and also allows you to add personalised reminders/meetings/appointments to specific days. These reminders will then be displayed on your front page on the specified day, and can also be emailed to your iiNet email address. To add the calendar to your front page and start using this great new feature, simply log into: http://www.iinet.net.au/customise.cgiusing your iiNet username and password, and click on 'Insert Component".
In response to popular demand from our customers, iiNet has recently announced the introduction of the "Free Zone", an innovation that allows our ADSL clients to connect to several of our services and incur no traffic fees. This is great news for anyone who is on a volume-charged ADSL account, as it means you can now utilise selected services at your leisure and not pay for the traffic you use - making iiNet ADSL even better value! Services that are currently included within the Free Zone are all iiNet Games servers, our Tucows mirror, and our new FTP server (see below), with several more inclusions planned for the future. For those of you with a technical interest, the Free Zone applies to connections to anything within the 203.59.27 range. If you would like to know more, and to stay up to date with the latest additions to the Free Zone, check out our Free Zone website at http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/freezone.html
iiNet has deployed a new FTP server - ftp://ftp.iinet.net.au/ This new server has a much larger disk capacity and faster hardware, providing a faster and more reliable service to you. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a mechanism for sending large files across the Internet more efficiently than via traditional methods such as email. The new ftp server is located within the iiNet "Free Zone", meaning any traffic downloaded by volume-charged ADSL clients from this site will not be counted towards your traffic quota/charges. We invite customers to make use of the mirrors contained on the new server, including the following: - TUCOWS (The Ultimate Collection of Winsock Software) For more information about ftp in general, please visit the following URL: http://www.iinet.net.au/support/ftp.html We also encourage clients wishing to see other content on iiNet's ftp server to suggest it via the feedback section of our website: http://www.iinet.net.au/contact/index.html
iiNet is pleased to announce the second edition of our Standard Form of Agreement. This updated edition encompasses any changes made to terms and conditions since the first release of iiNet's SFOA in March 2001, and also includes all the new products we have released since then. Available online at http://www.iinet.net.au/products/sfoa.html, this document sets out the Terms and Conditions of your Internet Access. If you have any queries regarding the contents of the SFOA, please do not hesitate to contact us.
It's time for another of iiNet's popular movie nights!
