Newsletter: December 2001
Welcome to the December edition of the iiNet newsletter. May we take this opportunity to wish all our clients our best wishes for a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. Don't forget that our support team will be here as usual 24 hours, 7 days over the Christmas period to help with any problems you may encounter!
The big news this month is that iiNet is having its first ever Open Day! On Friday December 14th, we will be opening our doors to all interested parties, with guided tours, show bags and plenty of friendly iiNet staff around to chat to. So if you've always wondered what goes on behind the scenes at your favourite ISP, here's your chance to come and find out! For those of you who want a more comprehensive insight into how things work here at iiNet, some of our most talented staff will also be running seminars throughout the day on a variety of topics. If you're moderately technically-minded, you might find some topics that interest you - from an overview of the network by our General Manager of Network Operations to an in-depth exploration of the benefits of Broadband internet connections. These seminars are already proving very popular and places are limited, so bookings are essential - just visit the following URL to view the seminars available and to book your place. http://www.iinet.net.au/about/openday/ We look forward to seeing you there!
Over the last year since ADSL has been released, we have seen iiNet ADSL revolutionise the small to medium business market by offering affordable high speed, permanent Internet access over a static IP. iiNet are now pleased to announce the release of the ADSL Enterprise Account. This 512k/128k connection offers unlimited downloads up to 512k downstream, and 128k upstream, for $399 per calendar month. ADSL technology works by adding the ADSL service to an existing phone line and allowing a second data transmission at a higher frequency on the line. This means you can have your highspeed, permanent Internet, without tying up your phone line. The Enterprise account can offer a real solution to your networking needs. Please visit http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/adsl/products.html or call our sales team on (08) 9214 2222 for more details.
iiNet is finally proud to release the promotion all our customers have been waiting for! From now until the end of December 2001, we are running our new referral program for our customers who recommend a friend to iiNet. This great new promotion allows both you and your friend to be rewarded! Here's how it works: Every time you help one of your friends connect to an iiNet QUARTERLY Explorer account or any of our permanent or broadband internet accounts, they will receive a FREE Sharp Digital Organizer and you'll get 1 extra month FREE added to your account (Conditions apply - see below). The more friends you recommend, the more free months you can add to your account! To take advantage of this special offer, simply tell your friends to have your user name, full name and phone number handy when they call us to connect to iiNet. Ask your friends to call (08) 9214-2222 or regional areas 13-22-58 and press option 1 for sales, and they must quote the promotion code: TIM9571. Your friends can now start enjoying all the benefits you do with iiNet - The small print 1. Offer only available by calling (08) 9214-2222 or 132258 and quoting
the promotion code TIM-9571, and providing the referee's iiNet username,
full name and contact phone number.
Our Support team would like to alert our clients to two new virii that have reared their heads recently. Name: Badtrans.e Name: Goner This virus is spread via email, and affects Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express for Windows. It sends emails with the subject of 'Hi' and a message body that reads: How are you ? The worm has an attachment called 'gone.scr' in the email. The virus also spreads via ICQ, by sending itself to people in your contact list who are online. This worm also attempts to remove certain firewall and antivirus software. Lastly, the virus affects mIRC by installing scripts that will enable the computer to be used in Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. For more information on what these virii affect your machine and
instructions on how to remove them, just visit the following URL:
