Welcome

Welcome to iiNet's first newsletter for 2002! It's shaping up to be a big year here at iiNet, with lots of new projects in the works to help us provide an even better service to you.

ADSL is fast becoming a central focus of our business, with more than 100 applications a week coming into our office - if you'd like to find out what it's all about and why iiNet ADSL really is the next big thing in Internet connections, just take a look at our ADSL news at

http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/adsl/adslnews.html

You'll find everything you need to know here about this fast-growing technology, including download comparisons.

Network News

Our Network Operations department have a busy year ahead of them, with large-scale plans for significant changes to our network. The objective of these plans is to promote network efficiency and to increase redundancy across the system, improving the inherent reliability of the services iiNet provides. Customers in regional areas will also reap the benefits of some positive changes to our remote POPs, which will reduce the routing overheads and improve connection speeds for customers dialing into these POPs.

Several network upgrades are also in the pipeline. Last week saw the pilot of a new traffic delivery system in our Bunbury POP, which if successful will be rolled out to Albany, Broome, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Margaret River within the next two months. This is great news for our customers in regional WA, who will see improved performance across these links as the rollouts occur. Stay tuned for more news on these upgrades!

Our Perth ADSL link was also upgraded earlier this week, with an increase from 16Mb to 32Mb. This will result in improved download speeds for our ADSL clients.

New Network Tools

Now you can see live updates of our network and POP status from our home page. Two new tools have been added to our Account Tools section, which enable our customers to view both the status of our network, service by service, and the line usage of all our main Points of Presence. Take a look at the following links:

http://www.iinet.net.au/fault/fault.cgi

and

http://www.iinet.net.au/support/popstatus.html

If you like to customise your iiNet home page, you will find that you can also add the current POP Status to your iiNet front page.

Don't forget we also have extensive Support Pages to help you with any problems you or your family may encounter when using your iiNet account. Why not take the time to visit our home page and click on the "Support" link at the top of the page, and you'll find help by software and operating system, modem tips, and various other useful utilities, complete with screenshots. You'll be an expert in no time!

Webtrack - Change to Web Filtering Policy

Under the changes to the Broadcasting Services Act, iiNet is obliged to provide customers with a filtering solution approved by the Australian Broadcasting Authority. At this point in time, WebTrack is not an approved filter solution.

As such, over the next month iiNet will be withdrawing WebTrack from its suite of value-added services. This change will affect Explorer account holders who are currently using the free WebTrack service offered as part of that account. iiNet's Standard Form of Agreement (SFOA) will be updated to reflect this change of conditions to the Explorer account, and this notice constitutes the 21 days notice required in the SFOA.

In order to offer you more flexibility and choice when looking for a filter to block unwanted websites, iiNet has produced an informative web page that discusses in detail the issues surrounding web filtering and provides a summary of the available alternatives. This change will make web filtering an option available to all iiNet clients, and gives you the opportunity to choose the service that best suits you. Simply visit the following URL to view this information & trial the filtering software available, and if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us at iiNet.

New Bill-Payment Options

At iiNet, we are always striving to bring you more efficient account payment facilities. iiNet has now installed the latest technology in telephone and internet Bill Pay systems.

TELEPHONE:

You can now pay your iiNet account by telephone directly from the "Pay Your Account" option from iiNet's main phone menu. At present the system allows for Bank Card, MasterCard and Visa credit cards.

If you would like to pay with American Express or Diners Card, pressing option 2 from "Pay Your Account " will direct your call to one of our account operators who will take your details.

If you prefer, you can call our Bill Pay number direct on 1300-553-577 and follow the voice prompts.

Here are the 3 easy steps to guide you through iiNet's Phone Pay option:

Step One:

Dial iiNet on 08-9214-2222 (Metro area) or 13-22-58 (Regional areas) - Select the option - "To Pay Your Account, Press 2"

Step Two:

Voice prompts ask you to press either:
1 - To pay by Bank Card, MasterCard or Visa Cards and takes you to our automated Phone Bill Options without any delay. Please have you iiNet biller code number ready, which appears on either your email bill or paper bill, along with your credit card details.

Or

2 - To pay by Diners or American Express Cards, takes you to one of our account team members who will take your card details and process them to your account

Step Three:

Follow the voice prompt and enter in all the details on your touch-tone telephone keypad that you are asked to provide. Once complete, your iiNet account will be credited automatically and your account is paid, and you will receive a receipt number as a record of the transaction.

SECURE WEBSITE:

If you wish to save yourself the time and cost of a local telephone call, you can choose to pay via iiNet's online bill payment facility.

By visiting the following secure website, you can pay your bills with any Visa, Bankcard, MasterCard, Diners or American Express card.

https://billpay.iinet.net.au/

This online payment option is secure, quick and convenient.

If you have any questions regarding these convenient and time saving facilities, please don't hesitate to contact support on 08-9214-2222 (Metro area) or 13-22-58 (Regional areas), or email us at support@iinet.net.au.

SPECIAL NOTE:
The online and telephone billpay systems are not able to pool credit onto Atlantis accounts. Please use the following credit facility link below:

https://toolbox.iinet.net.au/cgi-bin/creditpool.cgi

Once the credit has been pooled into the Atlantis account, an invoice will be generated which can be used with both the online and telephone bill pay services.

Domain Renewal Notices

We have recently had several customers forward to us Debt Collection notices from the Internet Name Group (ING). These notices were issued to customers who responded to Renewal Notices from the company. ING has since sent you an invoice (which you may have been told by iiNet to disregard) and paid Melbourne IT for the renewal of your domain.

The majority of the time iiNet _had_ actually made the renewal payment on your behalf (as we should), and ING do not have any claim to your money. We are aware that they are also asking you to pay a $200 legal fee, which, being that they have no claim, you should not pay.

If you receive such a notice, please forward it to us immediately, and we will look into the matter on your behalf. We can find out who paid the renewal of your domain for you, and whether ING have the right to send you this notice. Please note, if it does turn out that ING paid the renewal you will need to pay them for this service.

Just a reminder, if you receive renewal notices from a company other than iiNet for your domain, you should forward them through to us to investigate. We will be in contact with you by email or telephone to advise you of the course of action iiNet will take.

For asn.au domain holders, please note that your Connect West invoice has been settled by iiNet on your behalf. We thank those customers who brought this to our attention!

If you have any questions regarding anything in this email, please contact a member of our support staff on the numbers below.
