Newsletter: July 2002
*Welcome Hartingdale customers!
The staff at iiNet would like to take this opportunity to greet all our new customers from the recently acquired Sydney ISP, Hartingdale Internet. Welcome aboard! Bliink - New Broadband Products! iiNet is pleased to announce the release of its new Bliink range of Broadband products for home and business. Starting at $49.95/month, the Bliink range of products offers flat rate Broadband access at speeds up to 30 times faster than standard modem dialup. Bliink is currently available throughout Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. Bliink Broadband is now the most affordable Broadband in Australia, with low flat rates and no billing surprises at the end of the month. The Bliink range has also done away with long-term lock-in plans. Full details of the new Bliink products can be found on our website - Business customers will also benefit from the new range. Biz-Bliink is a new volume-based account with constant, fast Internet speeds and convenient pay-as-you-go billing at 12c/MB after generous monthly traffic quotas are reached. Biz-Bliink Plus is a new flat rate range of products, which can be very comforting for small to medium businesses and government organisations operating within tight budgets. The new Bliink range does not replace or affect any current iiNet ADSL accounts. iiNet ADSL account holders will have the opportunity to switch to the new Bliink range shortly if they wish too, however customers under an existing contract will need to pay the contract out. iiNet is offering a special change-over fee for iiNet ADSL account holders changing between 31st of July and 30th of November 2002. Details of this will be mailed to those parties shortly. There's never been a better time to enjoy the benefits of Broadband! Network News iiNet's Broome POP has recently been upgraded with a new router and a higher speed link (1.5Mb/s) back to Perth. This is the same type of upgrade that has been performed recently in Bunbury, Albany, Margaret River and Kalgoorlie. The new service will provide clients with faster connection speeds, and will also cater for the growing number of iiNet clients in the Broome region. iiNet's link to our primary upstream provider has also been upgraded, increasing the speed of the link by 10Mb/s to 85Mb/s. This upgrade will result in improved performance of our service to you, including better speeds and lower latency. Important .au Domain Changes On July 1st 2002, some significant policy changes were made to the way that .au domains are registered and handled. All clients who are listed as Administrative or Technical contacts of a .au domain name should have received an email or letter from their previous domain Registrar (eg Melbourne IT for .com.au domains, or Connect.com for .net.au domains) informing them of the changes. These changes are most significant to those who provide domain hosting and registration services, such as iiNet. If you have received one of these letters or emails, no action is required on your part unless you host the domain yourself. The email or letter you received may have mentioned that your domain is registered with ConnectWest. ConnectWest is a WA-based Accredited Registrar for .au domains (one of nine Australia-wide). iiNet is a licensed reseller of ConnectWest's services. ConnectWest's website is http://www.west.net.au for those who may be interested. Please be assured that iiNet will continue to provide the same level of domain hosting that you may have had prior to July 1. If you are interested in finding out more about the wider changes to the .au namespace, please feel free to visit the following web site (AusRegistry) - http://www.ausregistry.com.au/ Renewal Notices to iiNet Customers for .com.au Domain Names As you may by aware, the ACCC is now investigating certain companies that have been sending unsolicited domain renewal notices to .com.au domain holders. iiNet will renew your domain with the Registrar as part of the service you receive with your domain hosting. If you receive a renewal notice for your domain from a company you have never heard of or are unsure about, please do not pay it. Forward the notice to iiNet and we will take measures to ensure that your domain is renewed. If you feel that you may have paid such a company, please contact iiNet. We will do what we can to assist you and to ensure that your domain is renewed by us in the future. Ultimately, however, you will need to file a complaint with the ACCC. For more information, please see the Australian Domain Administration consumer alerts regarding this issue located at:
