Welcome

Welcome to iiNet's June newsletter. Our call centre is in a whirl this month, creating a fun and informative video as our entry for the Call Centre of the Year award later this month. We are all looking forward to being under one roof finally, read on to learn about our relocation plans!

Network News

We have some exciting news for all our Voyager accounts, using either modem or ISDN connections.

As of the 1st of July these accounts, will no longer be charged for local traffic to the point of presence that the account is dialing into.

An example of this is, Bunbury clients playing games on the Bunbury server will be considered local traffic, however, Bunbury clients checking email is not local traffic as email is stored on the servers in Perth.

Even better news for customers who have a Premium Explorer dial up account. Extremely heavy down-loaders will now notice that our fair use policy of curving the rate at which you download a little to maximise the effectiveness of our incoming links, now only applies to external, not local traffic.

Freedom and Pioneer account holders will have their access rate curved much sooner when they reach 300 megs in total. This includes both local and external traffic.
Our Geraldton Point of Presence (POP) has had a new link commissioned, which will increase the current bandwidth by 50%. Geraldton clients will notice an increase in the speed of their connections. We would like to thank all clients dialing into this POP for their patience while we complete the work.

New Tools

A tool is in development, which graphs traffic and differentiates it into local and external so that you will be able to keep a closer eye on your usage.

It will be online soon so keep your eye on: https://toolbox.iinet.net.au/

Welcome To Our New Explorer Members

We have had a dramatic increase in our Explorer Members in the last month. The new Explorer upgrades have attracted record breaking sales of our Premium dial-up account and we would really like to make you all feel very welcome to iiNet!

To all our current Explorer Members who have recommended your Premium ISP, thank you very much too.

Enjoy your time with us!

Although we have had a slight delay to the implementation our new IVR Phone system, our priority support for Explorer Members will commence shortly. We would like to thank you for your patience.

iiNet's New Premises

Well it has finally happened! On Friday the 1st of June iiNet took possession of Level 6, 263 Adelaide Terrace. iiNet will once again be comfortably housed under one roof!

We will be relocating in stages, the first staff to move will be our Network Planners with Finance and Administration following. The call centre will take a while longer to move as the telephone system will take a lot of planning and effort to relocate. We will endeavour to have the call center unavailable for a maximum of four hours in total by completing this part of the relocation in the early hours of a Sunday morning.

We are hoping to have all iiNet staff working from our new address by the end of July. This means that if you come into the QV1 building to pay your account, or if you wish to drop your computer in for an onsite, you will need to come to our new building soon.

A firm date for the closure of reception at QV1 will be announced as soon as possible, however, client's computers will only be accepted for onsites at our new premises after the 15th of June.

High Speed Business Solutions

iiNet can now offer high speed access to the Internet, with speeds up to 30 times faster than your normal 56k modem. As your Internet connection is always on when your computer is on, there are no dialup charges which can save you around $365 a year.

The new technology that allows this incredible high speed over standard telephone lines is called ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line). This means that once you have our special modem connected to your standard telephone line, you will be able to communicate at speeds up to 1.5Mbps or that's like the power of 30 x 56k modems all working together!

iiNet's ADSL Express and ADSL Corporate are specially designed for small to medium businesses and commercial operations. They have a static IP address so you can run your own mail server, host your own domain and web pages as well as have a virtual private network!

Features include:
* Super Fast Internet Speeds
* Permanent Connections
* No dialup charges
* Static IP ADSL is available in most areas.

Name the iiNet Crab

Have you seen the new iiNet television advertisements with a cute little crab scuttling around? He is even popping his head up on our home page now too. Last month we ran a competition to name our newest mascot, in conjunction with Mix 94.5fm who are also running a series of radio advertisements for us. The prize was a trip to Broome flying Qantas and staying at the Broome Cable Beach Inter-Continental Resort in deluxe accommodation with breakfast and transfers included. The lucky winner is Mrs Cherrie Burton. We would like to wish her and her husband a safe and happy holiday!

The winning entry was "Tim". Welcome aboard, Tim the Crab, and thank you to all our clients who voted.

Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter, we hope it has been useful to you.
