Newsletter: November 2001
* Welcome Welcome Welcome to iiNet's November newsletter. This month sees us getting ready for the expected influx of new customers over the Christmas period - so now's a great time to start thinking about friends and family who would love an iiNet account for Christmas! Our reseller network is constantly being expanded, so just give our Support team a call on the numbers below to find your nearest reseller location. Explorer DVD Competition Winners The winners of our new Explorer member competition have now been drawn. iiNet would like to congratulate the lucky customers who have won a new Finsella Zone Free DVD player, simply by opening a new Explorer account. You can see the smiling faces of our lucky winners at: http://www.iinet.net.au/newsletters/compwinners.html iiNet's Sky Writing Plane! Look out for the new iiNet Sky Writer plane at beaches, in the city and at special events all around Perth. iiNet's logo was recently sighted all over the sky at Rally Australia, displaying our new slogan: IINET - BLAZINGLY FAST INTERNET ACCESS This advertising campaign also extends to some exciting new press adverts, so be sure to keep an eye out. Domain Renewal Notices Again we have noticed that a number of our clients are receiving Domain Renewal invoices from companies other than iiNet. These invoices are worded to give the impression that if the invoice is not paid, your domain may become de-registered. The ACCC and the Australian Domain Authority have released a consumer warning about this practice, which you can read at: http://www.auda.org.au/alert_renewal.html Please note that you should never pay any of these companies for the renewal of your domain name, as the fee you pay to iiNet for hosting also covers the renewal of the domain. Some offers may seem appealing - for example, one company currently has an off.biz domain for free if you renew with them; however you must note that when you pay your renewal fee to one of these companies, you are _only_ paying for the renewal. Your $200 iiNet fee also covers the hosting of your domain on our name-servers. If you have received an invoice from one of these companies, and are unsure about it, please forward it to us and our Domains team will deal with it. Showcase Shines Apples iiNet recently co-sponsored the GMUG Computer Showcase with Apple Computers Australia, held in Geraldton on Saturday 20th October. The event showcased the largest and most sophisticated collection of Apple Macintosh computers ever seen in Geraldton, giving visitors the opportunity to gauge the popularity of Microsoft Windows' biggest rival. The Geraldton Macintosh User Group (GMUG), an on-line subscriber list, organised the showcase in response to the demand in Geraldton for information, products and technical support for Macintosh computers. iiNet was represented locally by Brenda Walker - Bluff Point and Tarcoola Computers owner/operator. A solid turnout of 40 to 50 visitors had been expected but attendance was in excess of 150, and the showcase was heralded a great success by organisers. Free Internet Lessons a Success iiNet's affiliation with Internet Wise offering Free Internet Lessons for Over 45's has been a huge success. Internet Wise have already run several Free Internet Courses for Over 45's and the response has been excellent. Attendee Gloria Swin said: "It was a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and the small class size was good. We were provided with take-home notes and encouraged to ask questions by the trainer. I have already recommended the class to friends, and enrolled on a 4 week beginners Internet adventurer course." Remember - to qualify for your Free Introduction to the Internet Lesson simply phone iiNet to set up your Premium Explorer Account, and existing Explorer Account Members already qualify to receive this fantastic offer. If you are Over 45 and would like to know more simply call iiNet on 9214 2222 or see their advert in this month's Have a Go News.
