iiNet Newsletter November 2002
* iiNet 2002 Open Day iiNet 2002 Open Day Due to the overwhelming response to iiNet's first Open Day, we have decided hold another one this year! We will be opening our doors from 12 noon to 7:00pm, Friday 22nd November 2002. Seminars will be held on topics ranging from Internet troubleshooting, marketing and products, to more technical presentations about iiNet's networks and servers. There is something for everyone! Experienced guides will take visitors on a tour of the iiNet premises, so you can see how we run on a day-to-day basis. Plus all visitors have the chance to win a fantastic door prize, a Sony DVD player. More spot prizes are on offer during the day! So where are we located?
The Durack Centre Our reception team will be waiting to greet you outside the Conference Room on the ground floor of the Durack Centre (opposite the Durack Cafe). For more information, or to book your seat in one of our great seminars, please click here> See you on November 22nd! Withdrawal of Shell Access on opera.iinet.net.au iiNet has offered "shell access" to opera.iinet.net.au for several years. This service has been attractive to the more technical customers, for a variety of purposes. Unfortunately, it has also been a common source of security problems, as aspiring hackers attempt to attack our network and our customers. While this has not resulted in any serious problems, it is a significant time sink for our technical staff. Since less than 3% of our customers actually make use of the shell service, we have decided to withdraw it mid next year. Over the next month or two, we'll be researching cost effective alternatives which we will publish in a future newsletter. This won't be happening until July 1, 2003, over six months away, but we're putting the warning in here now so that people can start thinking about alternatives now. bliink Enters Queensland Queenslanders can now get our very popular bliink broadband service. To provide good service to our growing number of iiNet broadband customers, we have been running intensive ADSL training for support staff. This training will continue to be developed in line with customer demands.
