Network Faults on October 17

We would like to provide you with an explanation for the difficulties experienced on the morning of October 17.

Some of our clients experienced intermittent connectivity over the morning of the 17th. This was due to a network failure that was not identified for several hours by one of our providers. These networking issues resulted in our clients being unable to fully or partly access various services such as mail, web browsing and newsgroups.

We are currently working with this provider to improve on fault identification and reporting mechanisms so that this type of disruption does not re-occur. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Bandwidth Changes

During October, iiNet's Network Planning Team retired our 12Mbit of Satellite bandwidth, and increased our UUNET Australia link from 15Mbit to 33Mbit to compensate. Clients should notice improved performance, due to the bandwidth being of better quality than our prior satellite feeds.

New Lines

iiNet has launched new Points of Presence in Melbourne and Sydney! We will have more news regarding this soon but are pleased to say that we will soon be able to sign up new clients in both of these major centres.

Toodyay has just received an upgrade of 60 new lines, taking the number of dial in lines at that point of presence to 120. Toodyay's capacity has also been upgraded for higher bandwidth and faster data transfer.

New Products

iiNet is proud to announce that we have just launched iiNet SMS as a new product. Using iiNet Short Message Service you can send text messages via our webpage to any mobile telephone on the Australian GSM and CDMA network.

Any Explorer, Voyager or Web Affiliate account entitles you to 10 free messages per month. Pioneer accounts receive 5 free messages per month. Visit this URL for all the details:

If you wish to purchase additional messages, they are available in bundles of 100 for $30. Please email support@iinet.net.au with your request.

Onsite Computer Bookings

Our dedicated onsite group has relocated to Innaloo. If you are having difficulties that you are unable to resolve over the telephone, you may arrange an in-house onsite by contacting us on 9214 2222. Our Innaloo office hours are 7:30am TO 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. Further information will be given at the time of booking.

Games News

iiNet games are busy at the moment building and testing the new games network that should be ready for public use in the first week of November. The new servers themselves have arrived. For those interested, the machines are Dual PIII 800's with 512MB of RAM. One of them has 640 MB RAM.

Stay tuned... by the time of the next newsletter, the new games servers should be online!

Explorer Account Information

Do you have an Explorer account? Here are some tips on how to make payment of your account easier.

Have you considered changing your $40 monthly billing to Quarterly or Annually and therefore saving yourself some money?

If you choose to pay $110 quarterly you save $40 per year. Alternatively, you may prefer to pay annually and save yourself $80 per year.

Make payment of your bills easier by allowing iiNet to make automatic debits from your credit card. iiNet will still send you an invoice before your account is due, advising you that automatic debit will be made soon, as well as a receipt of payment once it has been made.

Our support team can organise this quickly for you if you reply with your request to this email, or call on 9214 2222.

Thank you for taking the time to read this Newsletter, we hope it has been of value.
