Network News

This month has seen our Network Operations team deploying new dialup numbers to the majority of our remote POPs. Our new telecommunications provider, Chime Communications - a wholly owned subsidiary of iiNet Ltd - has provided these numbers, allowing iiNet in turn to provide a better quality service infrastructure to our clients.

If you dial into one of our regional POPs, you may find that you have recently been receiving emailed notifications of the change to your dialup numbers. Once the old numbers have been decommissioned you will only be able to access a webpage asking you to dial the new numbers. This transition is almost complete for most POPs, and iiNet would like to thank all its regional clients for their co-operation in moving to the new numbers - we hope you notice an improvement in the quality of service you are receiving!

POPs which have had their new numbers implemented include the following:

POP Location: Old Number: New Number:
------------ -------------- --------------
Kalgoorlie (08) 9080 8000 (08) 9000 3000
Bunbury (08) 9721 0700 (08) 9707 3000
Margaret River (08) 9757 0500 (08) 9760 0000
Albany (08) 9842 7100 (08) 9843 0000
Geraldton (08) 9956 0300 (08) 9922 0000
Rockingham (08) 9528 0200 (08) 9500 9000

If you are having trouble changing the dialup number in your software, simply visit the following URL and select your operating system at the bottom of the page:

WebTrack - Now with Parental Control!

WebTrack, iiNet's free premium web-filtering service, has recently been upgraded to offer parents and teachers even greater flexibility and control. Explorer accounts can now take advantage of our new password-protected WebTrack service - you can turn it on or off as you choose, with the use of a password that is completely separate from your dialup password, for added security.

Webtrack is a service which uses a regularly updated black-list of sites that are inappropriate for children. It can be used as a tool to lessen the availability of such material with your iiNet Internet account, and is now available directly from our website to all Explorer accounts.

To use this great new WebTrack tool, simply visit the following URL:

    https://toolbox.iinet.net.au

and log in using your Explorer username & password. Once activated, the service will take around two hours to update, and please note that you will need to dial back in before the update will take effect.

    iiNet Moves with the Ages

iiNet is proud to be participating in this month's BankWest "Seniors in the City Trail 2001" - Sunday 28th October to Saturday 3rd November, promoting Seniors Week. iiNet will be providing a question for the Trail, along with one free month of an iiNet Premium Explorer Account as one of the many prizes up for grabs.

We will also be participating in the "Streets of Silver" Parade on Wednesday October 31st, handing out goodies and promoting our free Introduction to the Internet Lessons. So come along and join in the fun - the Parade starts on the Esplanade at midday.

For more information on these events, look out for the BankWest "Seniors in the City" lift-out in the West Australian sometime after October 14th.

    New Tool for Atlantis Accounts

Atlantis customers will be pleased to know that we have released a fantastic new accounting tool - you can now add credit to your prepaid account and pay your invoice on the spot, all from our Account Tools webpage! Simply visit the iiNet Toolbox at the following URL:

    https://toolbox.iinet.net.au/

and log in with your Atlantis username & password. You will then be able to add credit to your account (minimum of $25), and can pay your invoice online using our billpay system - thereby eliminating the need to call our help desk or reply to your low credit emails! It's never been easier to keep your Atlantis account topped up.

If you don't wish to pay online, don't worry - you can still use the tool to add credit, and the invoice will automatically be emailed to your iiNet address.

Don't forget you can always forward your iiNet email to another address from our Account Tools page ("Email Forwarding"), and check your contact details to ensure they are correct ("Account Overview") - just visit the following URL:

    http://www.iinet.net.au/members/index.html

Change of Conditions for Atlantis Accounts

iiNet would like to take this opportunity to advise Atlantis account holders of a change to the conditions of this account currently stated in iiNet's Standard Form of Agreement (SFOA): as of November 1st 2001, the minimum amount of credit that can be added to your credit pool will be increased from $15 to $25. A copy of iiNet's current SFOA can be found on our website at the following URL:

    http://www.iinet.net.au/help/sfoa1.html

    Games News

Great news for Half-Life and Counterstrike players! This month saw the release of version 1.1.0.8 from Halflife and Counterstrike 1.3. iiNet servers have been upgraded and people are finding the new voice radio abilities in Counterstrike to be a welcome addition to team tactics.

Fans of good old Quake will find "Deathmatch Classic" a welcome addition to the iiNet games network. This game takes the graphics abilities of the Halflife engine, and puts them in the classic style of Quake gameplay. It's another part of the 1.1.0.8 Halflife version, and iiNet has a server at dmc.iinet.net.au

While we are feeling nostalgic, one of the most revered computer games of all time is about to enter the 21st century. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a game in the works by the people at Activision. The official website is here:

    http://www.activision.com/games/wolfenstein/

iiNet has a test server up for this new game, and initial feedback has been very positive. The server is at wolf.iinet.net.au and the game test can be found on the iiNet games website:
