Welcome

Welcome to iiNet's September Newsletter. We are approaching the one-year mark as a publicly listed company and as such are just about to release our first annual report. This has been a very exciting year for us and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our shareholders, both large and small for their support during this time.

New Cable accounts

iiNet has just introduced two new accounts in our Cable range. Cable Express and Cable Corporate join the Cable Home account to create a suitable product to fill the needs of our clients. Currently the cable access is only available at Ellenbrook however, we expect to be offering cable access in other areas later in the year. The full product details are available at:

http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/cable.html

City Span

City Span is our popular, high-speed account. It supplies a fast connection through iiNet's Wireless Network without the cost associated with ISDN.

With the City Span account there is no need for you to buy expensive routers or software. We provide you with a proprietary designed iibox, antenna, lightning suppressor and cabling. The iibox can be configured to provide subnets of live IP's or can be configured for private ranges and or DHCP routing. Unlike ISDN and Frame relay methods, there are no Telco charges to be paid. Pricing and further information for this account can be found at this address:

http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/cityspan.html

Since the City Span service is wireless, you need to be within our coverage area, and have a line of sight view to an iiNet antenna. If you would like to find out if City Span is available in your area we have a detailed coverage map available through our website at:

http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/cityspan-coverage.pdf

If you wish to view any of the equipment, we have a showroom available at Professional Cabling, 92 Parry Street, Perth.

You can contact our team in the Corporate division to arrange an obligation free survey of your premises on 9213-3377.

ADSL

iiNet will shortly be releasing ADSL products to the market. For those who have not heard, ASDL stands for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line and is an exciting new development in Internet connectivity which provides high speed access at a fraction of the cost.

The new technology can be installed over existing telephone lines, allowing you to use both phone/fax and Internet at the same time. iiNet also provides a modem with the account, further reducing your costs.

Release of the product is set for Mid-October with iiNet offering two accounts, ADSL Express and ADSL Corporate.

Contracts are available for 6, 12 and 18 month periods. Connection fees are dependant on the agreed period.

Contract Period Setup Fee
6 months $399
12 months $259
18 months $189

ADSL Express provides speeds of 256 kb/s downstream / 64 kb/s upstream and has a minimum monthly traffic charge of $85 for 500 Mb.

ADSL Corporate provides speeds of 1.5 Mb/s downstream / 256 kb/s upstream and has a minimum monthly traffic charge of $125 for 500 Mb.

Both accounts include a static IP address (if required), an e-mail box and 20 Mb of web space. Additional traffic is charged at 15c per Mb.

Please note that all prices stated are inclusive of GST.

Many areas are covered in the initial roll-out. Further information about pricing and coverage for ADSL is available through our website at:

Games News

It has been a busy month for the counterstrike players. There have been three server updates and two clients in the past three weeks. The servers are now running Beta 7.1. The update files can be found on the ftp server as usual.

The next UWALAN is coming up on the 24/9/00, and again iiNet games are going. Keep an eye out for a new test server that we will be playing on. It will most likely be on the game network in the next month or so.

Many gamers have been experiencing some frustration caused by higher than normal latency while playing on the game servers. We are aware of some of the issues around it, and have been experimenting with solutions on how to fix it. Some of these have had positive effects and we will continue to seek further solutions. It appears that game packets that are destined for modems from the game servers have caused the issue. These packets are occasionally being delayed across the network before reaching the dial-up servers. This has primarily been caused by an overall increase of loading on the iiNet network.

iiNet is developing a new network infrastructure that will permanently resolve this. The new iiNet network is due for release in the coming months.
