If you are providing your website to take orders, or to transmit sensitive information - your customers often would like the peace of mind of a secure server. The Secure Server is a method of enabling secure, encrypted data transfer (eg. for credit card details, etc) across the Internet. This provides people visiting your website with the confidence that their information can not be intercepted by a third-party between their web browser and your web site. When we commission a secure server, it provides you with an additional address for your website of the form of https://www.vandelay.com.au/ (where vandelay.com.au is your domain name). Note the s in https, this refers to secure HTTP - the protocol used. When your customer visits this address, their browser will confirm the site is secure by showing the “padlock” symbol indicating your credentials. We use RSA Thawte secure keys, the leader in web security technology. When you apply for your secure server add-on we will guide you through this procedure. To obtain a secure server, we use a trusted certification authority (CA) such as Thawte or Verisign. As part of the verification procedure we will submit your company to these CA's in order to be issued with a trusted certificate. Price: $200 per year per domain. Please note, iiNet registers by default 40 bit Web Server certificates from Thawte. Should you wish to apply for a 128 bit certificate, or use a different certification authority (such as Verisign), pricing will be adjusted accordingly.
