Window Errors
Port disconnected by the remote computer
Error 629 is caused by misconfigured modem settings. Even that the error
indicates: remote computer, the error occurs locally on your machine. To correct this
error,
complete the following steps:
- Go to Start then Settings and Control Panel
- Double-click on the Modems. You should have one modem set up
and showing in the window under the words: The following modems are set
up on this computer. If you don't have a modem listed here you will need
to install it. If you have more than one modem choose the one you are using
by highlighting it.
- Click on the Properties button.
- Under Maximum Speed, select the appropriate port speed for your modem. For
14.4 modems use 19200, for 28.8 modems use 38400, for 33.6k use 57600 and
for 56k modem use 115200.
- Uncheck Only connect at this speed, that option might be greyed out
depending on a modem type
- Click the Connection tab to open it.
- Under Call Preferences, ensure that the box marked Cancel the call
if not connected within is unchecked. Note: Some modems may not allow you
to change the call preferences.
- Click OK.
- Click Close to exit.
- Retry connecting to iiNet
