Frequently Asked Questions

What is my web address?

When your pages are uploaded, your web address is http://members.iinet.net.au/~username/.

Whilst some other variations of the iiNet domain (iinet.com.au, iinet.net etc.) work, we do not recommend you using these as we can't guarantee they will work forever.

How do I set which file is my homepage?

The page which will appear as your homepage should be stored as index.html in your public_html directory. Note that all HTML files you place in iiNet's server should have an extension of .html

How do I set up imagemaps on iiNet?

If you don't want to use Client-Side Image Maps, you can use NCSA imagemaps by placing them under a directory in your public_html directory and referencing them like the following:

If the script is ~/public_html/maps/homepage.map:

What's the Zoo?

The iiNet Zoo is a list of iiNet users who have homepages and wish to be listed. It is at http://www.iinet.net.au/zoo/

Can I be added?

Sure, if your homepage matches the URL http://server.iinet.net.au/~username/, or if you are an iiNet client with your own domain, you can fill out our online form.

Can you change the name I'm listed under the Zoo?

Yes, just resubmit the zoo application with the new details you would like displayed and we will update your listing.

Do you support Microsoft Frontpage Extensions?

No. The iiNet servers do not support Microsoft Frontpage Extensions. However, If you would like more information on using Frontpage, please see http://www.iinet.net.au/support/frontpage.html

Do you support Netscape Navigator Gold's Publish Feature?

In the publish window enter the following:

Location: ftp://members.iinet.net.au/u/x/username/public_html/
Username: username
Password: password

Replace "x" with the first letter of your username

Once I have created my page, how do I get it on to search engines?

To add your site to search engines, a different process is involved for each service. Web searches such as Altavista and Lycos regularly contact our site for new pages, and they will get automatically added. However, if you want to add your pages straight away, try Submit-IT! and AddMe.
