Putting your webpages on your website
Once you have created the webpages, you need to copy them from your computer to the iiNet
computer (known as uploading). To do this, you use a protocol called File
Transfer Protocol, or FTP. There are a variety of FTP programs available for you to use. You can
also use your web browser to connect via FTP.
To use Internet Explorer to upload your files, enter the location/address as: ftp://username@members.iinet.net.au/
Where username is your unique iiNet username. A login window will appear that will ask you to type in your username and password. Type in your iiNet username and password.
Your main webpage or homepage (the page you want people to see first) should be called
index.html. If you are using an older operating system your HTML files
might have an extension of ".htm". These will not display correctly on most
browsers, so you will need to rename them to an extension of ".html"
Using an FTP Program to upload your webpages
If you are using an FTP program, rather than your web browser, you need to configure it to connect to our shell server, with your iiNet username and password.
If your FTP program has an option for "Anonymous FTP" this is not what you want.
Here are instructions for the most popular FTP software you might want to use
to upload your web pages to our server:
