Macintosh Troubleshooting - A connection was established but was not reliable and was terminated

There can be few reasons causing this to happen. The error is username/password related. It could also mean that the data is not transferred correctly through the modem. Before you follow the instructions below, please make sure you restart your system and try again.

  1. This is a FreePPP Error. Open your FreePPP (Under Apple - Control Panels - FreePPP) then click Accounts. Highlight the connection that you normally use, then click Edit. Make sure that your username and password are entered correctly (your username is usually the first portion of your iiNet email address before the @ symbol), you might want to retype them just to make sure. Please keep in mind that both username and password are case sensitive. Make sure that the connection that you are editing matches the one that is selected at the top of the FreePPP screen (where it says "Connect to"). Then try again.

If you have problems finding the settings check:

  2. If that does not help check the Modem settings. Open your FreePPP (Under Apple - Control Panels - FreePPP) then click Modems, make sure you have selected the correct modem. You might have to insert an init string for the modem if it is still having problems connecting. Refer to Dialup Modem Help for suggested initialisation strings
